The Strategic Enrollment Data Analyst leverages data, technology platforms, and analytical techniques to help the Enrollment Management division to make more data-informed decisions. While this role may include some traditional data analyst duties—reporting, visualization, data analysis, etc.—its primary focus will be a strategic one, which helps to enhance the division’s data analytics maturity over time and bridges the gap between the division’s two teams, Admissions and Financial Aid.

The role’s primary responsibility is to act as the data science lead for Enrollment Management’s predictive/prescriptive analytics platform, including: maintaining a deep understanding of the platform, its configuration, and its data; training other members of the division; testing, training, and tuning models; and, perhaps most importantly, communicating the results of analyses and recommendations to leadership.

This role is a key member of the Data Analytics team reporting to the Associate Director, Data Analytics (part of the Library & Information Technology division), and will be embedded with the Enrollment Management team, maintaining an indirect reporting relationship to the Vice President for Enrollment Management. This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt, benefits-eligible position. The position may be considered for on-site, hybrid, or fully remote work.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Act as Bucknell’s advanced analytics expert for the Othot Enrollment Analytics platform. This includes building and maintaining a deep understanding of the platform, its configuration, the data used, and the predictions it makes, as well as the ability to run various tests and scenarios within the platform.

  • Work to continuously improve upon our implementation of Othot by identifying additional data sets which can be leveraged, implementing new data science techniques, and identifying opportunities for improvement.

  • Act as the primary point of contact between Bucknell and Othot, working with them to address support issues and bugs, and to advocate for and implement new features in the software.

  • Train internal users on the Othot platform so that they can become self-sufficient and offer support to users as needed.

  • Help to drive Bucknell’s data fluency efforts, particularly promoting those efforts, encouraging education, and offering direct support to members of the Enrollment Management division.

  • Help to connect Enrollment Management’s two teams, Admissions and Financial Aid, through the implementation of shared data products and conformed data processes and standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in analytics, data science, computer science, applied mathematics, or a related field; OR Bachelor’s degree in any subject plus three years of experience in data science, analytics, or a related field.

  • Demonstrated ability to perform in-depth analysis of data, uncover trends, perform statistical analysis, etc. in order to help to drive more data-informed decisions.

  • Experience using data science tools and techniques to frame business problems, analyze data, build predictive/prescriptive models, and communicate outcomes and/or recommendations to decision-makers.

  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to communicate with people at all levels of the institution.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in higher education and familiarity with the academic and business processes of higher education and the interrelationships between departments, data, and systems, particularly those that relate to Enrollment Management.

  • Experience with Technolsolution’s enrollment management platform, Slate.

  • Experience with Ellucian’s student information system, Banner.

  • Expertise with data modeling, data visualization, and dashboard development with Tableau.
